Bachelor of Science in Agriculture usually abbreviated as B.sc (Agr) is an undergraduate course in Agriculture science and technology. As we know agriculture is the cultivation plants and fungi used to support and enhance life.

The study of Agriculture is known as Agriculture Science. It involves the study of use of modern scientific equipment and techniques in agriculture, land surveying, soil science, water resource management, animal, and poultry management, basics of biotechnology etc. The main objective of the course is train the students the concept to improve agricultural productivity.

The course B. Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture also includes The Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) to understand the rural situations, status of Agricultural technologies adopted by farmers, prioritize the farmers’ problems and to develop farming skills for all-round development in rural area.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Bachelor of Science in Agriculture is considered as a professional degree by Government of India. It is a 4 years integrated undergraduate course for 10+2 students preferably with Science stream. The admission to the course is Entrance Exam based. ICAR Entrance Exam (ICAR-AIEEA), KEAM, EAMCET are a few exam conducted for the admission to this course. There are large numbers of private colleges and general universities too which admit a large number of students in B.Sc. Agriculture course.

  • The minimum qualification required to apply for B.sc in agriculture is 50-60 %( depending on institute) in 10+2 in physics, chemistry and Biology.

    ADMISSION PROCESS:-

    There are two modes of admission to the university and institutes offering B.Sc Agriculture Course. The one is the direct admission based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations (i.e. Merit Based) and the other is through the entrance exam conducted by the University/institutions. Eligibility criteria also vary for reserved categories as per the reservation guidelines of GOI.

    Fee Structure

    Fees of the course depend on the college you opt where the private colleges fees normally starts from the Rs2,00,000 an can be up to 5,00,000 depending on the position and service provided by the colleges, whereas at government college this fees varies between INR 5000 to 1,00,000.

    B.SC AGRICULTURE: CAREER GROWTH AND PROSPECT

    Agriculture being the productive industry in India and at global level, there are lot of career opportunities available in agricultural industry. One can work for Central and State ministries, Agricultural departments, Extension services, Research organizations, Commercial farming etc. are some of the sectors where graduates of this field can find job opportunities in.

    There are plenty of government as well as private sector jobs available for BSc Agriculture graduates. In government sector, they can be appointed as Research Officer, Quality Assurance Officer, Agriculture Officer, Agriculture Loan Officer (in Banks), Production Manager, Operations Manager and Farm Manager with State agriculture departments.
    In the private sector, agriculture science graduates may find jobs as managers at plantations, as officers at fertilizer manufacturing firms, agriculture machinery industries, agricultural products marketing firms, food processing units etc.
    The average starting salary of these officers is generally between Rs. 5 to 6 lakh per annum (including incentive). The salary increases with the experience.
