Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and most sought after disciplines of the engineering. It is one of the core branches of Engineering. It is a branch of Engineering that uses the application of physics, mathematics and material science for design, analysis, maintenance and manufacturing of machines.

Besides these core principles, mechanical engineers use tools such as computer-aided design (CAD), and product life cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial tools and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, weapons, and others.

There are continuous advancements in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Today mechanical engineers are pursuing developments in such areas as composites, mechatronics and nanotechnology.

About the Course

Mechanical Engineering provides diploma, undergraduate (B.E/B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.Tech) degree programmes. B.Tech course is a 4 years long Undergraduate level Degree program which is divided into 8 semesters, each semester lasting a period of 6 months. Each semester includes separate sets of theoretical subjects, practical lab sessions and workshops.

  • Mathematics (in particular, calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra)
  • Basic physical sciences (including physics and chemistry)
  • Statics and dynamics
  • Strength of materials and solid mechanics
  • Materials Engineering, Composites
  • Thermodynamics, heat transfer, energy conversion, and HVAC
  • Fuels, combustion, Internal combustion engine
  • Fluid mechanics (including fluid statics and fluid dynamics)
  • Mechanism and Machine design (including kinematics and dynamics)
  • Instrumentation and measurement
  • Manufacturing engineering, technology, or processes
  • Vibration, control theory and control engineering
  • Hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Mechatronics and robotics
  • Engineering design and product design
  • Drafting, computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM)

Admissions Procedure

B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is the one of the most selected Engineering Discipline. Admissions are done through entrance test.  Students can apply for JEE Main 2018 after finishing 10+2 level exam in order to take admission in undergraduate engineering courses. Students who aspires to take admission in IITs or NITs are required to clear the JEE Advanced 2018 exam.

Students should have qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2018) for admission in postgraduate engineering courses. Admissions are also taken on the basis of entrance test conducted by various state level and university exams.

Eligibility Criteria

For UG: The candidate should have passed 10+2 examination from CBSE or any other equivalent examination board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects. The candidates should also fulfill minimum qualifying marks in aggregate of the subjects.

For PG: The candidate should have a B.Tech degree with a minimum passing percentage in an aggregate of the subjects studied at the degree level.
