Legal education in the India generally refers to the education that lawyers pursue before entering into law practice or court activities. The Law as an education started in India in the year 1987. The BCI (Bar Council of India) is the main regulatory body of Law education.

Indian legal education cannot only create value for “top of the pyramid” law graduates but must have stringent minimum standards so that it is transformational for all law students, irrespective of the law school that they choose to graduate from.

Admissions for Law courses:-

As of 2012, admission to LLB and LLM in most of the colleges/universities in India is based on performance in Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). 12th standard student with any stream (Science stream/ Commerce stream / Arts stream) can go for law courses. In some of the traditional universities, the admission is done on the basis of an admission test to the constituent law college or a common admission test for its affiliated colleges. Students who wish to pursue law courses from foreign Universities/institutions can apply for LSAT. To practice in law profession, it is required for the candidates to qualify All India Bar Examination (AIBE 2018).

Eligibility Criteria:-

  • 5-year LLB entrance exams:

Any student who has passed Class 12 with 50% marks (45 % for reserved categories).

A candidate was needed to be below 20 years of age as on July 1 to be eligible for CLAT

  • Three-year LLB entrance exams:

Any student who has completed graduation degree with 45% marks (40% for reserved category)

A candidate must not be less than 17 years of age on the date of application.
